“I'm going to go down swinging... I'm sure as heck not going to go home and say I had a bad tournament.”– Andre Agassi
Much like professional athletes, there are a number of players, who play the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game, that thirst for competition. They want a chance to prove their worth in a tournament setting. They enjoy besting their opponent and celebrating their victory. Not all players who play the TCG are like this, but there is enough that warrants having Organized Play programs. These events are where players can compete against each other for fame and prizes.
These players also come in all sorts of forms (no, not like Cat Form or Bear Form). There are players that like to compete on the national level all the way down to those that take pride in winning their Battlegrounds every week (some of these players might do everything in between as well). The majority of players are sort of in between. The players that consistently win their local Battlegrounds might want to test their skills against the next level of player. Cryptozoic offers that chance with tournaments like Realm Qualifiers. A competitive event, bigger prizes, and some more on the line.
Players don’t have to rely on Cryptozoic for providing all the tournaments.

Enter a new Champion of the Black Flame run tournament series. A couple of the more motivated volunteers got together and decided to form such a tournament series. This series of events are collectively called the WoW TCG Cup. Here is a link to the Facebook page for the Cup.
This Cup series has qualifiers in the local communities culminating in a Championship event that will not only provide prizes for top finishers, but also provide bragging rights for their area. One of the regional based Cups is the I-10 Cup. I-10 is the interstate that stretches between Phoenix and Tucson in Arizona. Both cities have thriving playing communities. Those players also have a great deal of pride. Bragging rights, when it comes to who has the best players between the two cities, are some of the most coveted rewards that can come the Cup series. There will be prizes and the some of the qualifying events are tied to other events like Realm Qualifiers. These are set up because it also encourages players to travel (kill two birds with one stone…poor bird).

“The original idea was another way to bring the AZ players together, now though, with the help of other volunteers I get to give a little bit of the insanity that is Tucson to players all over the country. These events will not only bring players closer together but will also get the Champions of the Black Flame a reason to work together closely outside of a large CZE run event. I look forward to seeing how this experiment pays off, I think it will be a riot. I hope that people enjoy these events adn that we get to spread them even more around the country next year.” – Aric Jack, Champion of the Year
The overall Cup series is still in the planning stages and doesn’t have all the details published yet. If you are interested in being a part of this Cup series or want to know more about how you can get this set up in your area, I encourage you to speak to those Champions that were involved in setting this up, by posting on the wall of the Cup page or posting in the discussions thread.
And you know something, this is a promotion I can personally get behind, I might have an I-10 Cup Championship win under my belt.
