Gwon
July is here (already?) and that means summer is in full swing. Warm has given way to hot and the beach is the place to be. Getting out and enjoying the weather is on top of everyone’s list (except for those that live in the desert). Even Javier and I were able to get out and enjoy the Dodgers vs. Mets last night. Go Mets! We are going to go and watch them sweep the Dodgers tonite at Chavez Ravine. I think Will Smith summed up the summer best when he said, “Summer, summer, summertime. Time to sit back and unwind…” Summer is a time to relax.
Oh wait…
It also happens to be convention season. There is no time to relax! This summer Cryptozoic is visiting numerous conventions. Origins, Gen Con, PAX Prime, Blizzcon…those don’t even take into account the Darkmoon Faires and Continental Championships that are scheduled. The convention season is keeping everyone busy, not to mention putting out a bunch of board games and trading cards.
Origins
A little over two weeks ago, fresh off getting back from NACC the day before, Ry and I set sail for Columbus, OH. The Origins Game Fair hosted Cryptozoic and provided us a booth and tournament area. The booth was busy the whole event with convention goers who were interested in learning how to play the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game. In addition to having demos, the Cryptozoic staff also provided raids on Icecrown Citadel for more experienced players. Robin went undefeated over the course of the weekend as the Lich King, even taking down the stacked team of Ry, Tina, and I. Attendees were also eager to learn more about our Walking Dead Board Game and Trading Cards. Ry looked after the tournament area and that place was packed all weekend. From CZE League play, to beginner events, to Spectral Safaris, there were games available for players of all experience levels. Overall, Origins Game Fair was a success for Cryptozoic and you might catch us again there next year.

I wanted to say thanks to all those that put in long hours of hard work, Cryptozoic couldn’t do it without you! Thanks to Steven Fouts, Robin Boan, Chris Lombard, Ben Bowers, Tina Grindol and Anna Schmidt. Once again our convention staff exceeds expectations, I look forward to working with each of you again (some as soon as Gen Con).
Champion of the Month
that time again, time to award the Champion of the Month! This Champion is relatively new to the program, but he has quickly risen to the top of the Champion class. Providing unwavering support for, not only his store that he’s responsible for, but the whole playing community in his area is just one of the outstanding aspects that he brings to the program. This volunteer has taken upon the task of keeping the local Facebook page updated and posts on the wall on a regular basis, keeping the local players involved and excited about the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game. Here is a link to the Facebook page for his community. He also took it upon himself to set up and conduct demos at Texas Comicon. He and his staff were busy, providing demos to those that were interested in learning. He was also able to talk to a couple of out-of-town players about bringing Organized Play back to their store. He even had Brent Spiner stop by the booth to check the game out.
In case you haven’t been able to guess who it is, the Champion of the Month is Ronald Smith, CZEV#27. For his continued support of Dragon’s Lair, Gamelot, and the entire San Antonio WoWTCG community, Ron will receive a Cryptozoic playmat, uncut sheet, as well as some other CZE goodies. Congrats Ron! Keep up the good work, San Antonio is definitely in good hands.
Upcoming Events
Just a reminder, the judge/staff calls are currently open for Darkmoon Faire Poznan and PAX Prime. You can find these on the judge forum. If you aren’t able to make it to either of these events, stay tuned, the call will go out for Blizzcon and Darkmoon Faire Philadelphia soon.
Until next time, to those that are able to, I suggest you kick back, relax, and enjoy the great weather during summertime.
