Greeting and salutations from Tucson! I was asked to write up a little snippet by Mike Girard to tell you all about the finals weekend of the Champion of the Black Flame tournament series, the WoW TCG Cup. For those of you that have been following the different Cup events that started this past spring, this was the culmination of a lot of hard work that was taken on for the sheer love of the game!

The Cup series were featured in 6 different locations throughout the world, here are the list of finals and who ran them:

I-10 Cup                               Aric Jack/Joe Risacher

Lone Star Cup                    Julia Smith

Omaha Cup                        Brendan Franz/Mark Howard

Tokyo Cup                           Gary Stevenson

NYS Cup                               Rob Clark

The I-5 Cup finals had to be delayed, but Ben Norwood will be running it this weekend, the 22-23 of Oct, good luck to all of those out there in the Washington area! For more information, check out the North West WoW TCG Facebook page.

The basis of the Cup series was that you would pit one or more stores and/or cities against each other in a series of qualifier events, where all of the participants would earn points trying to be one to the “top 4” points earners for their location. The format was different throughout the season, depending on what series you were in and when you were playing. The finals were Core, one last shot before Throne of the Tides released. When the finals came around the 4 highest point’s earners from each store/area would be invited to the finals to battle it out to see whose players were the best. Prizes were handled by each individual organizer, but the community stepped up and made these events a success by providing additional prizes.  TheMetaMart contributed cool gift certificates to be given to the winner of each qualifier event, thanks Damien! For the finals, trophies and more were on the line, depending on the Cup you played in,  CZE contributed prizes to each Cup to help with the finals. Here is just a sampling of the prizes that were on the line!

Congratulations to these guys, lots of time and travel went into these wins, along with some serious card flopping that is!

So that was the first season of the WOW TCG cup. It was a lot of hard work and I appreciate the Organized Play team more now.  I know the effort that is involved in trying to get all of these to go smooth and stay on schedule, the glutton for punishment that I am, I can see this happening again next year. I’d like to throw out a huge thank you to all of the other organizer/Champions that I worked with on these for the past 8 months or so, it was a blast and I can’t wait to do it again, are you prepared?

Look for season two info in December and, based on the 2012 Realm Season, we’ll fire it all back up in 2012.  Until then gentle readers… hey, let’s go crack some packs of Throne of the Tides!
