Happy early Turkey Day, heroes and allies! We’re looking at running a very Cryptozoic Thanksgiving here at the office soon, but before I find myself eating too much I wanted to chat briefly about April 2012 and Darkmoon Faire Baltimore’s main format.

At 2011 World Championship held earlier this month, Kyle Heuer announced Organized Play’s plan for 2012 events. Some things to note specifically before we move on:

  • A LOT of World of Warcraft TCG players love team tournaments. We would like to support these better in the future.
  • Running a Team Darkmoon Faire at the 2012 North America Continental location in Las Vegas would mean that some of our players wouldn’t be able to make teams with their friends that they like most (i.e. their friends that win the most). We would also like to support groups that want to playtest before this event, without anyone worrying about which members of their team may advance to Day 2 of NACC.

To adjust for this, we’re flipping what was announced as the Darkmoon Faire Baltimore Format with the Darkmoon Faire Las Vegas one. Darkmoon Faire Baltimore (April 13-15) will be Team Sealed. Each team will use six packs of Throne of the Tides and six packs of Crown of the Heavens. Picking one player to be Horde, one to be Alliance, and one to be Monster makes deckbuilding so much easier, but is by no means required.

What this means, is Darkmoon Faire Las Vegas (June 16-17) will change to Core Constructed. Players will have an opportunity to see what Core Constructed decks have success during Friday’s North America Continental Championship and either build Core decks that can beat the flavors of the week or make a run at the vendor tables and build card per card the most successful (or most surprising) decklists from that event and have another chance to compete for prizes.

Looking For Group?

Today we launched the “LFG: Darkmoon Faire Baltimore” forum. We’ll leave this forum up until a week after this event as a subsection of the Tournament and Organized Play Discussion part of the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game forum. If you’re interested in team events, but don’t have two teammates already, this forum is a great place chat with others that plan to attend this event. This area is also open to team deckbuilding discussion, or other meet and greets players want to organize in or around the Darkmoon Faire Baltimore event.

Turkey isn’t ready yet, but before we get ready to the holiday weekend I’d like to leave you with a couple pictures from last year’s get together when we blew the walls off the place. (No, literally we took a wall down in the kitchen to make room for the friends of our employees so everyone could eat together).

A view from the Dragon's Den, looking into the kitchen without the wall separating them.

The Cryptozoic Staff (plus guests) joined together for giving thanks.

If you're in a part of the world that celebrates Thanksgiving this weekend, we wish you the best!
