This blog was supposed to be all happy and stuff, but right now I’m stewing over basketball news that Chris Paul is going to be an LA Laker. We haven’t talked about the greatest hope for Clipper Nation in a while, Blake Griffin, so I’ll remind our Community Blog readership that myself and R&D’s Patrick Sullivan have a healthy rivalry with OP_Kyle’s LA Lakers. Some may say that it’s one-sided since the Lakers have more NBA championships than the Clippers have playoff appearances, but we believe in Blake.
That’s enough basketball talk for today. Happy stuff! Let’s talk about something better, like reaching out to our communities during the holiday season. You have your store and players; that’s a community. And your store, that’s part of a town (or area of a large city); that’s a community as well. It’s where you live, where you work. You probably have a city name/sports team tee shirt somewhere in your wardrobe. Every December, we run the Chase the Can Charity Tournament. We provide an exclusive promo prize, but this is really about organizing everyone to reach out to their local city and pitch in.
This year, hobby stores around the world will host their Chase the Can events on December 17 & 18. Instead of an entry fee, every player brings 4 cans of non-perishable food and plays 3 rounds. At the end of every match, the winner takes a can from the loser. Each can is worth a promo card, and the local Champion of the Black Flame (volunteer) will sticker one can to be worth double the amount of promos. So, you gotta chase those cans!

The cans to go a local food bank and will help less fortunate families during the holiday season. Just like I genuinely believe that our community is the best gaming community out there in regard to welcoming new players into the fold, we want to show that we’re also excellent in reaching out to others as well and introducing ourselves, bringing the positivity that comes with being a WoWTCG player to others.
We’re also doing our part in the office with our Marine’s Toys for Tots drive. People have been bringing toys into the office over the last two weeks and we just went shopping yesterday at Target, as you saw in yesterday’s blog.
So, I want to say thanks for being an awesome community and amazing 2011. I look forward to seeing even more players participate in Chase the Can this year December 17 & 18, and urge you to reach out this holiday season to those in need in as many ways as you can both as an ambassador for WoWTCG and as an individual.
