At Cryptozoic, we go to great lengths to preserve the ratios of our Loot cards across a production run. This ensures that when you open a new box of product, you have as good a chance as any other player of finding a card that will give you a cool in-game item. Unfortunately, we discovered that certain individuals had found a method to determine whether or not a pack contained a Loot card; they'd remove the Loot, replace it with a non-Loot card, and reseal the pack and box. That box would get resold to another person – like you – and you'd go through an entire box without getting any Loot. And we really didn't like that (and we doubt you would either.)
So one of the steps we've taken to combat that behavior is release Treasure Chest cards in booster packs starting with Crown of the Heavens. These cards have a scratch-off area, like a Loot card, and are worth a bonus amount of crafting cards when turned in to us. These cards do NOT affect the ratio of Loot in a run, and only take the place of a crafting card in the overall ratio for the run. All it means for you, the player, is a chance at bonus crafting cards and the same chance at Loot cards as before. For people who'd try to take Loot that's rightfully yours when you buy product, it means a real headache.
Treasure Chest crafting cards are redeemable for the Archaeology promo cards in Crown of the Heavens, available February 7th.
