Psych Previews and More!

By Miranda Charsky

Always one of my favorite days in the office, case checks can be one of the most satisfying aspects of what we do on a day-to-day basis. To see a product, which the whole team has been working on for months, finally come out as a real thing in foil packs, is awesome. I am not always a fan of having to crack all of the foil packs, but luckily there is usually no shortage of folks in the office that will help share that burden.

The case check for the Psych Seasons 1 – 4 Trading Cards went really well. Although we had previously approved the printing and cutting of the cards, we were happy to see that everything still looked awesome after running through the hoppers for pack-out. The three chase sets, consisting of embossed, foil board, and foil stamp technology, were cool looking and everything was in good quality. Word to the wise, it can be easier to discern the chase sets if you sort through the pack upside-down.

The Wardrobe and Dual Wardrobe cards are super thick – taking up the spot of 4 Base cards in a pack – which I prefer as I don't like it when the cards bubble out over the costume swatch. The card frames also incorporate a lot of light colors, which will help stand up against chipping.

We had to move forward with production without the twelfth signer, which is unfortunate, but we couldn't hold up production any longer waiting. That being said, most cases will contain a complete set of Autograph cards.

The Oversized Wardrobe card for this set is a Dual Wardrobe featuring oversized swatches of Burton Guster and Shawn Spencer wardrobe. I wanted both sides to feel like the front, so both sides try to share the burden of the information (legal and otherwise) that we need to have on there. I think it turned out pretty cool, and I'm sure that collectors will enjoy adding it to their collection!

In addition to wrapping up production on Psych, we are happy to push some new product pages live! An addition to our growing line-up of theatrical releases, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Trading Cards should release Q4 2013, or very early 2014. The Base set will obviously cover the still from the movie, while the Chase sets will include a look at the major characters in the story (foil board, 2:24 packs), the Dwarves' backstory (technically part of the base set, and will be inserted as such), and 3D lenticular cards featuring some of the awesome key art done for the film (TBD). There will also be Sketch and Autograph cards. Expect about 1:288 packs for Sketch and 1:24 packs for Autograph.

The next product page to go live has been highly anticipated the Once Upon a Time Season 1 Trading Cards. We knew going into the license that assets for the first season were very limited, and I think it is important for fans to have the same realistic expectation. With that in mind, the Base set is very small, and there is only one Chase set: The Price of Magic (foil board, 2:24) focuses on how magic has impacted the characters. However, we are very fortunate to be blessed with a generous costume designer, so there are lots of awesome wardrobe cards to collect (1:24 packs)! We are also working very tirelessly to gather a really great line-up of Autograph signers (1:24 packs), so there should still be a lot of great content for fans to collect!

The Vampire Diaries Season 3 Trading Cards will be releasing later this year, and we are happy to have more information to share with fans! The Base set will feature episodic images from the very dramatic third season, all culminating in a moment that will forever change Elena Gilbert's “life.” Don – don – don! Chase sets include a look at the Original vampires' origin (antique paper, 2:24 packs), contrasted by a super sleek, modern foil board set dedicated to the major players in Mystic Falls (2:24 packs). The third set for the series, it should be no shock that there will be plenty of Wardrobe cards (1:24 packs) and Autograph cards (also 1:24 packs) from the Main cast and various Guest stars.

We are always finalizing designs, content, and signers, so please be sure to check back regularly to stay up-to-date on all the newest information!
